For four years, we lived on the route for the Boston Marathon and cheered on the runners as a yearly tradition.  After moving to NYC, we were disappointed to not be able to cheer on the Boston runners in person.  However, in November of 2009, we sat in awe as we watched the NYC Marathon on TV.  Something changed on that day for us.  We decided then and there that we would run the NYC marathon.

We joined New York Road Runners so we could have guaranteed entry to the 2011 Marathon.  To do so, we needed to run in 9 races and volunteer in one.  Being addicted to our iPhones, we bought apps and sneakers and off we went.  Nine races and one volunteer credit (all during 2010) later, we were able to register for the NYC Marathon.  On April 19, 2011, we (gulp!) officially registered for the marathon.

We are still enjoying the 9+1 NYRR program this year, just in case we get addicted to marathoning.  This way we can enter the 2012 marathon, as well.

This blog is going to be about the ups and downs of our last 20 weeks until the marathon.  Let the race begin!

  1. Jennie, good for you. I wish I had the energy to do the same. My knees will not allow me to run too much. I would be more than happy to cheer for you on marathon day. I have cowbells too. Keep going!
